The shop is open on Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm to service shoppers in the community.
The Thrift Shop is located in the basement of the parish hall. Enter through first door along the right side of the church building–look for the “OPEN” flag. Prices are extremely reasonable.
All proceeds from the shop fund the mission and ministry of the Church of the Good Shepherd, everything from building maintenance to grants to local nonprofits, and the shop is the single largest source of funds in the church budget.
The Community Garden transforms empty space along the border of our property into a source of food and pride for members of the neighborhood.
Over 20 raised beds and a compost bin were constructed in space that would have otherwise simply been given over to ground cover.
Every spring members of the neighborhood sign up for plots, and throughout the summer grow food for themselves or friends.
The Community Garden was inspired by the passion of the late Ken Lagerquist, a leader in the parish and owner of a landscaping business.
The URI Master Gardeners program donates free seeds and provides some advice to gardeners.
While we’re great with serving with our hands and with collecting things, Good Shepherd folks also know that sometimes the best way to help a situation is with money.
The Advent Fund (income from the sale of the Church of the Advent property in Pawtucket) continues the generous tradition of that parish which merged into ours in 2005, by making small grants to social service and church programs in the Blackstone Valley area.
To apply for a grant, download and print this form, fill it out and return it to the church: Advent Fund Grant Application
The Good Shepherd Outreach Committee allocates funds from our own annual budget to underwrite some of our good works. And the Rector’s Discretionary Fund, funded by the loose plate offering one Sunday each month plus fees from funerals and weddings and some special gifts, enables Mother Gillian to respond to individuals who are in short-term financial crisis, by helping with things such as rent or utility payments or a camp scholarship, or local disaster relief.
For example, it was these three funds which enabled Good Shepherd to be one of the most generous Episcopal churches in the state in responding to the Ebola epidemic in Africa in 2015, as we were able to help some of our Liberian parishioners send supplies and cash to their networks “back home.”
